On February 10, 2026, as the Lunar New Year of the Horse approaches, Furui Energy Service’s 150,000 Nm³/d sour natural gas remote well recovery and utilization project, invested in and developed by the company, was officially put into operation. Featuring standardized design, short construction cycle, and low-energy-consumption operation, the project provides an innovative solution for the efficient utilization of regional sour natural gas resources and supports the transition toward greener energy development.
Technical Breakthrough
Addressing long-standing industry challenges associated with remote sour gas wells—including scattered resources, unstable production, and the poor economics of conventional gathering and centralized processing—the project adopts domestically leading desulfurization technology combined with mixed-refrigerant liquefaction technology. The system achieves a desulfurization efficiency exceeding 99.9% and is capable of stable processing of wellhead natural gas with approximately 1% H₂S content, enabling the large-scale and economically viable development of dispersed sour gas resources. This effectively overcomes the technical bottlenecks that have long constrained industry development.
Standardized Construction
During the design phase, the project fully implemented standardized and modular design concepts, with core equipment and process schemes based on proven, mature solutions. This approach significantly reduced design and construction complexity, enabling the project schedule to be shortened by more than 20% compared with similar projects. The project successfully achieved the engineering objectives of “high-standard design and high-efficiency construction,” providing valuable experience for the rapid deployment of similar projects in the future.
Green Operations
With a strong focus on low-carbon operation, the project achieves a significant improvement in overall energy efficiency through systematic energy-saving design. On one hand, high-efficiency, energy-saving equipment is widely adopted, complemented by a waste heat recovery system that maximizes the utilization of process heat and reduces external energy consumption. On the other hand, the project innovatively applies a dual-loop cooling system combining air cooling and water cooling. This hybrid configuration can intelligently adjust operating modes based on ambient temperature and production load, significantly enhancing cooling efficiency and operational adaptability while reducing both water and power consumption. According to calculations, the project’s comprehensive energy consumption per unit of LNG production is more than 7% lower than the national standard requirements. In addition, pollutants generated during the gas treatment process are efficiently treated, with emission concentrations well below the latest national environmental standards, achieving a synergistic improvement in both economic performance and environmental benefits.
Upon commissioning, the project achieves a daily natural gas processing capacity of 150,000 Nm³, with an annual processing volume exceeding 50 million Nm³ of sour natural gas. Through an integrated “on-site gathering, purification, and liquefaction” model, the project not only significantly reduces losses and costs associated with natural gas transportation, but also effectively unlocks the value of surrounding dispersed gas field resources. At the same time, it provides a continuous and stable supply of clean LNG energy to regional industrial users and residential energy consumption, further enhancing local energy security and supporting sustainable development.
As a flagship project of Furui Energy Service in the field of sour natural gas treatment, the successful commissioning of this project demonstrates the company’s comprehensive capabilities in complex gas-source liquefaction technologies, standardized engineering management, and green operations. Looking ahead, Furui Energy Service will continue to deepen technological innovation and promote scalable development models, injecting stronger momentum into energy security assurance and the achievement of China’s dual-carbon (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) goals.
